There has been much discussion of Bill Maher lately. We know him to be an ugly litttle mole of a man. He is a well-known sexist who refers to women as bitches, cunts, bimbos and twats and treats them as such. The man who spends much of his career making fun of stupidity in the United States has shown himself to be missing a few circuits in the brain department himself. Yes, Bill Maher is a stupid man.

If you are not sure, just check out his non-apology as he chats away on the cable show Hardball. But Maher is feeling the heat from feminists who have been most recently outraged by his use of "twat" to describe Sarah Palin and "bimbo" to describe both Palin and Michelle Bachmann. And so he offers an apology of some sort... and then swiftly takes it back.

Maher states:

"So, you know, I always say, as I’ve said many times in these kind of situations, if I hurt somebody’s feelings, I’m always sorry about that. I’m not trying to hurt somebody’s feelings, but if you want me to say, ‘I’m sorry what I said was wrong.’ No, sorry, I can’t go there.”

Then Maher goes on to explain why it's okay to use sexist slurs and this is where he really shows himself to be substandard in the analytical department. Maher suggests that people (even conservatives) like sexism so it's okay! Here Maher describes the positive response to his recent show in Dallas which is somehow proof that sexism is okay:

“In Dallas, you know, the bastion of liberalism – here’s the headline from the review: ‘Nothing but love from Maher.’ And on the next page, ‘Maher a hit in Dallas’ is the other headline. So I go by the community standard-standard. You know, people have won cases about pornography based on this. They say, ‘Well, you know, if the community says it’s OK and apparently the community.’ And apparently the community — I mean you hear the laughter. If the audience likes it, I think that’s where the community standard is.”

Isn't that brilliant? If people laugh, if the community standard says that sexist slurs are okay then why don't we just live by that! End of story! If the community standard says it's okay to call Obama a dumb nigger, then that must be just fine, too! And I know that in some communities the standard is to call gay men immoral fags and so I guess in such a community this homophobic slur would make great fodder for a comedy routine! Or so it goes with Maher's sense of logic...

But no. We do not like racial, xenophobic or homophobic slurs in this country and it does not matter if some communities around the United States find it okay to use them. Because for Blacks, Asians, Latinos, Jews and gays we go by a human standard and not a "community standard". But with women it is somehow different although of course Maher does not explain why this is so.

Yes, Bill Maher is as dumb, hateful and privileged as a Confederate flag- waving white man and the only difference is that Maher has his own HBO program in which to spew his bigoted rhetoric. This is a great chance to get our voices heard. The more we stand up to the Bill Mahers, David Lettermans and Chris Matthews of the world, the more the media will think twice about the hateful language they use against women.
