Cartoons that KillMonday, January 19, 2009 at 1:37 pm — admin
Barack Hussein Obama (as he himself has designated as his official name for oath of office) will be sworn in this week as potus. As happy as we at FemiSex are to see the first black take office, we are also ineffably saddened by the sexism and misogyny that allowed his rise to power. Without the media’s constant hammering down of Hillary, we at FemiSex feel this would be a very different day. Because sexism played such a large part in Obama’s victory, that victory is tainted. Because Obama said nothing to stop the sexism that allowed his victory, he himself is tainted and ….vastly diminished. The American press used its full armamentarium to bring Hillary Rodham Clinton down; it used comics, cartoons, late night comedians, subtle wording in news stories, blatant wording on broadcast television, pedagogical indoctrination to dress up sexism in such species as C. misogynist Hitches or C. bigot Olbermann; it used biased headlines and strategic story placements to whip of demagoguery; it used sexist species of C. hitchens and C. dowd to tell Americans Hillary was a “soppy white bitch”… and among this panoply of useful means to bring down women, the press used women themselves—giving only those who agreed to speak ill of their sex a voice for their sex. (For women in top edit positions, such as Joan Walsh at Salon, please…a voice so faltering in support of the female candidate is like a defense lawyer saying “my client ought not be put to death, just life in prison.) Two things stand out in this election and the press coverage: One, the CONSTANT HAMMERING of any negative that reporters might find about HRC combined with the concerted effort to play down, and ignore the negatives about BHO. (for example, HRC’s misdemeanor of Bosnia sniper fire compared to Biden’s exact same offense. And if you want to tell me that negative coverage of Rev. Hate Wright equals negative coverage of Obama, I’ve a brige to sell you in Brooklyn. The press used Wright to whip away on while cooing over Obama’s smooth handling of the situation—so very presidential, he is!) This week a reader wrote to remind FemiSex that women are not funny. Death by a thousand cuts is so very rarely funny. This week, so we will not forget the barrage of hate and ridicule the Fourth Estate (comedians included) unleashed upon HRC, FemiSex will feature cartoons of the primary season. Please feel free to send links to those we might miss—there are literally thousands of them. |

The American press used its full armamentarium to bring Hillary Rodham Clinton down
The American press used its full armamentarium to bring John McCain down.
The American press used its full armamentarium to bring Sarah Palin down, AND CONTINUES TO THIS DAY to ensure that no threat to the new living God Obama will survive.
It is done overtly, and it is done subtly, it is done with choices of words, it is done with the choices in editorial content, and it has been done by refusing to attempt any real investigative journalism, coupled with intense attacks on any who did, and smearing them as right-wingers if they, like Stanley Kurtz, uncover facts such as those involved in the Chicago Annenberg Challenge, or the Rezko slumlord scandals... the list is long.
I do not expect us to recover from this. I truly appreciate your post, and your blog.
I agree that there were so so
I agree that there were so so many negative cartoons of Hillary. As a society, we must ask why our media set the dogs against Hillary with such single-minded determiniation--why are smart women who also want power the target of so much ridicule? And why do women put up with this? A real head scratcher for this woman.
over the transom, this came
over the transom, this came in:
CNN: I watched the special last night, and I noticed that you did a lot of jokes about John McCain -- his age, his war hero story -- but not so many about Barack Obama. Is it harder to make fun of Obama?
Chris Rock: He's just one of those guys, you know, like Will Smith. There's no Will Smith jokes. There's no Brad Pitt jokes. You know, what are you going to say? "Ooh, you used to have sex with Jennifer Anniston. Now you have sex with Angelina Jolie. You're such a loser." What do you say? "Ooh, your movies are big. You make $20 million." There's nothing to say about Brad Pitt.
... It's like "Ooh, you're young and virile and you've got a beautiful wife and kids. You're the first African-American president." You know, what do you say?
FemiSex replies: you kiddn' me? I could think up about a million ways to make fun of Pitt, Smith and Obama. Especially Obama! But the risk in telling jokes that poke fun of Obama's weaknesses is that jokes will bring down public perception of the person. Jokes are a way to weaken and demean folks, and it is so SAD that either Mr. Rock has the smarts of igneous, or feels Americans are too stupid to catch on to the truth of media protection of male superheroes.
perfect cartoon! shows how a
perfect cartoon! shows how a negative for Obama was turned into a negative for Hillary.! oh makes me illl, and,
are you kidding me- if every one left a marriage where men cheat, please, the 50s would have been the 70s. women only walked when they had jobs to walk to.
Now women and men cheat almost equally (younger age groups) and you can cut out presidents for lbj to jkf to grover cleveland, FDR. i for one am utterly sick of the double standard. Hillary should have stayed or gone -whatever SHE decides, not what others think she should have done. and to those who say women who blame the other woman is something bad, are u kidding me? when women cheat, men often KILL the other man, and then the women as well, and maybe the kids to boot!
attendign a chuch that is racist and sexist is a FAR cry from the personal hurt of a cheating spouse or partner.
