After decades of shining spectacularly, such would appear to be the eventual fate of golf's brightest supernova, Tiger Woods, whose hydrogen seems to be running out fast.

Recently , the world watched, again, asWoods officially ate some more humble pie for his indiscretions; once was not enough, it seems. However, this time, three women in the front row were gazing and sniffing sympathetically. While his wronged wife was nowhere in evidence (good for her!), these women - his mother, an employee and a sponsor's rep - were featured prominently in the videotape. Why? It seems Tiger's stock with women has fallen so low that his handlers had to demonstrate that he had at least two who would stand by him voluntarily (even though their objectivity was clearly in doubt), and one who was going to do that anyway because he was her son.

Serves him so right!

You see, Tiger's approach to the female sex is strictly, well, utilitarian:

He then proceeded to live a life of debauchery and deception while pocketing huge sums of money to pose as a wholesome role model, even for youngsters. He blubbered for the cameras on the golf course after winning a match, ostensibly in grief and bereavement for his recently deceased father; however, it is revealed later that while Woods Sr. was dying of cancer, Tiger was in bed with a woman not his wife, and after hearing his father was dead, proceeded to screw her as if nothing had happened. He carried on long-term relationships with different women, badmouthed his wife's sexual performance to them, and convinced each that she was the one and only, while flitting from one to the other like a sex-crazed dragonfly.

When all this came out there was an almighty uproar. Just about everybody claimed to be dumbfounded, surprised, gobsmacked and disbelieving. Nobody, least of all his wife, it seems, had any inkling that golf's golden child had such big feet of clay.

Maybe they should have been listening to Woods' own words.

However, Tiger says he is cool with sexism in golf:

Tiger Woods, who champions himself as a man vehemently against exclusionary policies for reasons of race or anything else, should be ashamed at the gutless straddle-the-fence answer he delivered yesterday to a question about women not being allowed as members of Augusta National.

“[Augusta National is] entitled to set up their own rules the way they want them,” said Woods, whose early existence in golf was all about opening doors to those like himself who were excluded because of prejudice, emphasized by his first Nike TV commercial that blared against his exclusion from certain golf clubs because of the color of his skin.

“That’s the way they want to set it up,” Woods said. “It’s their prerogative to set it up that way. It would be nice to see everyone have an equal chance to participate if they wanted to, but there is nothing you can do about it. . . . It’s just the way it is.”

And if there was racial discrimination, that was OK with him too:

Woods, who is of African-American and Asian descent, was asked if he feels the same way if this discrimination of women also applies to African-Americans and Asians.

“Yes I do,” he said.

And why not? After all, according to Woods, he is not black:

Woods recently began correcting people who call him Black, according to a report in the Chicago Sun-Times.

In fact, Woods seems to have evolved precisely in the way one writer predicted would be the effect of continuing to tolerate sexism in golf:

(Ending sexism) is important because thousands of young boys are joining golf clubs that view women as second-class citizens. And so the seeds of some men's fear, loathing and suspicion of women are being sown.
