From CNN today:
President Barack Obama's former top military intelligence official said Tuesday that the White House ignored reports prefacing the rise of ISIS in 2011 and 2012 because they did not fit its re-election "narrative."
Lt. Gen. Michael Flynn, the former head of the Defense Intelligence Agency, told CNN's Jake Tapper on "The Lead."
Flynn, …has been critical of both Obama's and former President George W. Bush's handling of the Iraq War and involvement in the Middle East,….
The story [Obama] needed to tell, he said, was that pulling troops from Iraq would not leave the region vulnerable to the rise of a radical Islamic group like ISIS.
"I think [their] narrative was that al Qaeda was on the run, and (Osama) bin Laden was dead. ... They're dead and these guys are, we've beaten them," Flynn said –
Now. Let’s turn from FAR LEFT CNN to Far Right Weekly Standard, on the same subject:
WS quotes left-leaning Daily Beast and FAR FAR LEFT New York Times,:
“More than 50 intelligence analysts working out of the U.S. military’s Central Command have formally complained that their reports on ISIS and al Qaeda’s branch in Syria were being inappropriately altered by senior officials,” the Beast reported in September.
But…everyone is careful to avoid saying the Obama directly ordered cover-ups of damning intel. But Obama is smart and he knows he can rely on his top folks (phew) Valerie Jarrett to make sure intel that doesn’t support his narrative will be suppressed.
That means just because his admin ordered top brass to suppress or alter ISIS intel doesn’t mean Obama was none the wiser.
In fact, he trusts his “close circle” to keep his hands clean.
Now after Obama’s CIA director refused to give up intel collected on raids, other folks demanded a looksee and here is what WS had to say bout that when the looksee finally occurred a year or more after intel collected:
Much of what these analysts were seeing—directly from Osama bin Laden and other al Qaeda leaders—contradicted what the president and top administration officials were saying publicly. While drone strikes had killed some senior al Qaeda leaders, the organization had anticipated the U.S. decapitation strategy and was flourishing in spite of it; bin Laden remained intimately involved in al Qaeda decision-making and operational planning; the relationship between al Qaeda and the Afghan Taliban remained strong despite the Obama administration’s attempts to weaken it by negotiating with Taliban leaders; al Qaeda’s relationship with Iran, while uneven and fraught with mutual distrust, was far deeper and more significant than U.S. intelligence assessments had suggested.
Analysts on the CENTCOM/DIA team were told they could not include information from the bin Laden documents in finished intelligence products. As word of the contents of the documents began to circulate informally in intelligence circles, one official on the team was summoned to Washington and ordered to quit analyzing the documents. To date, only a fraction of the document collection has been fully exploited, and fewer than 150 of the documents have been declassified and released.
This is a scandal. And those involved believe that it reaches into the White House.
“We were certainly blocked from seeing all the documents, and we were given limited time and resources to exploit the ones we had,” says Michael Pregent, a DIA analyst on the CENTCOM team.
The NYTimes has reported this as if we are total fools. According to the Times it was just....
Yeah, those bad boys who collect the intel and their superiors in military kept damning information on the rise of Daesh a big secret from Obama. Ha, my ass, and yours. Obama didn’t want the truth out; he didn’t want the public to know that his pull out of Iraq and his lamebrain FOPO was a key factor in the rise of ISIS or Daesh.
If team Bush promoted an idea of WMD as more plentiful that they were it’s not because they suppressed intel; it’s because the intel was itself bad. BIG difference. The media has you believing Bush massaged the intel on WMD’s but that is not the way things happened. Now we may actually have Obama’s minions suppressing good intel, and they my friends is far and away a much graver problem, if true and….it certainly looks that way.
Sad to say: the Obama-promoting MSM will never paint this picture as one of Obama’s dishonesty on matters of national security. And that is a total failure of a democratic press.
