Obama bans hijab from his election podium, then accuses others of thinking such women less equal

inculcation

"I reject the view of some in the West that a woman who chooses to cover her hair is somehow less equal." ~ Obama, speaking his speak to the Muslim world, June 2009.
Oh, yeah, Obama, well, how was it that women who “choose” to cover their heads were BANNED from an Obama podium during the election? And then howse bout we get to that word “chooses.”
Fact: In Iran, for example, a child of just nine years of age is Forced to wear a hijab. Choice? What FUCKing Choice is that? And remember, you girl kiddies who dare to “choose” to NOT to HIDE your HEAD …remember this: When a girl is nine years old she is considered an adult when it comes to punishing crimes. (Boys only become liable under the law at 15 years of age.) So at NINE a girl can be jailed for snubbing the hijab.

A woman was recently thrown into an Iranian jail for taking some pictures. She was raped and killed pronto quick. Women are tossed into jails all over the Muslim world for “moral vice” such as “choosing” to not cover their heads.
Beautiful, Obama, Beautiful. You decide that in reaching out to Muslims, the best thing to do is to say: hey, I get it guys: Them Womins, they need be kept under the thumb.

Obama, YOU don’t want the women who “cover their hair” behind you on a stage, YOU found them less equal.

But scumbag that you are, you choose to accuse Westerners of aspirations of female inequality, based on what exactly? It was Obama himself who found women with head coverings to be “less equal.”

How stupid DO you think women are, Mr. Obama.

The hair coverings you refer to are a product of intimidation and inculcation. This is a complex issue and Obama did the easy thing, the vicious thing, actually: Tell Muslim men that it is OK to give lie to the OPTION of burkas, hijabs, veils, and other culturally or legally enforced means of dictating what women may do and how.

Salon’s Worship-Obama-and-Throw-women-under-the-Obama-Bus writers did the predictable story on this: They wrote an apologist story for Obama’s bullshit embrace of the hijab. Salon wrote that :
"He didn't say, "The head scarf is a totally awesome tool for equality and empowerment!" What Obama did was defend a woman's choice to wear it, and reject the idea that it is by definition a tool of oppression."

NO, what Obama did was use the scarf to stave off fears that Western values mean freedom for themthar’s womin’s things. The largest fear Muslim males have of Western values is the fear of equality for women—the fear of women doing (and wearing) exactly what they wish. Obama was very smart in understanding that to gain Muslim male’s attention and respect, he had to promise them that he understood thathar suppress the womin’s thing.

PumaPac wrote a wonderful pushback on Obama’s sudden love of women who cover themselves. Have a read, then wonder why Salon is SO eager to embrace Obama’s complete bullshit about women choosing to cover their hair! Nine years old—choice MY ASS!

then...
Wonder this ladies, who has your back? Salon as they overlook Obama’s sexism at every turn?... or the new feminist sites (4th wave sites) that call it out at every turn?

The future is now and 3rd wave feminist writers are so 1990s! Time to move forward. Women can be brave enought to call out sexism when it rears its ugly head!

O wam women is at it again.

O wam women is at it again. Message to Obama: see what happens to your wife and daughters if they wander about many Muslim countries without those hair coverings. Throw in a pair of shorts and let the "fun' begin.
Women in Pakistan were called whores for even protesting their conditions.

I really appreciated the point this site made a several weeks ago, that is, women in Iraq made up more than a quarter of the electoral candidates in this winter's elections. Bush may have lied about WMDs, but he has loosed a much bigger WMD--women coming to power in the Middle East.
BTW, Kuwait has it first ever women elected to Parliment, right?

The only people who think

The only people who think women who cover their heads are less equal are the cultures that obligate women to cover up.

Think about it: all countries that force or "encourage" women to cover up are countries that have laws that value women as lesser than men. Obama is spewing women out his tailpipe. What a waste of an opportunity for women's rights to get needed attention.

We women who were born in the Western World can and should thank God that we live where we do. We should also have the guts to speak up for our sisters when Obama fails to do so.
and BTW: allowing women to go to school is a far cry from equality, as Obama well knows! In Iran most students are women, but they have half the value of men under the law.

Is it just me or is anyone else sick of Obama's use of the straw man?
William Safire ran a story on Obama's constant use of the Straw Man

http://www.nytimes.com/2009/06/07/magazine/07wwln-safire-t.html?ref=maga...

Encouraged by his reviews for eloquence, President Obama has embraced the straw man frequently.
“Some Obama Enemies Are Made Totally of Straw”; its subhead was “Setting them up to have someone to knock down.”

"With women being stoned, raped, abused, battered, mutilated, and slaughtered on a daily basis across the globe, violence that is so often perpetrated in the name of religion, the most our president can speak about is protecting their right to wear the hijab?"

thanks, to both our reader and the writer Peter Daou for this.

I was at a lecture given by

I was at a lecture given by the late Benazer Bhutto.
When an audience member asked about the Western diminution of women and veils, Bhutto snorted and said that such a discussion is a luxury for Westerners. Women didn't have book clubs to go to and decide IF they wanted or not to cover their heads; women did so in order to avoid being ostracized.

Obama surely get this. He is cagey if nothing else. Why he decided, actively, to ignore this reality is pretty clear to this smart woman.

Dear Anonymous-- Ms. Bhutto

Dear Anonymous--

Ms. Bhutto did a lecture circuit in the late 90s, and that is when I heard her speak. As i recall, she put that topic into her speech, and said very much the same to our audience. As i recall, she said that when women had freedoms fully equal to men, only then would she entertain such a question of "options" in clothing.
I am paraphrasing here, but she wisely said we are creatures that need community and if a community you are born into requires something from you and rejects you if you do not submit to the requirement, then it is human nature to bend to the wind of that requirement.

thanks so much for sharing! Bhutto was a delighful speaker and a brave woman!
Women have suffered much these past months. Hillary was politically killed by the wingnut anti-women Media, (ditto for Palin), Bhutto was killed by wingnuts loons, and Dr. George Tiller was killed by an absolute Zero of a human.

holy smokes, I totally fogot

holy smokes, I totally fogot about Obama kicking those veiled women to the curb during the elections. Way to go, for picking up on this. What a two-faced bucket that is Obama.
