Should Gitmo Go Live? Filling U.S. prisons up with Terrorists.Thursday, June 4, 2009 at 3:15 pm — admin
This week USA Today reported that the majority of U.S. citizens don’t want Guantanamo closed, presumably because Obama’s plan to do so entails putting those questionable critters in with the general prisoner population in American jails. On May 22nd, the NYTimes ran several stories about terrorists, one of which laid out Obama’s plans to “Move Detainees to U.S. Prisons.” Another story told of Obama’s plan for a specific “Detainee to be Transferred to U.S. for Trail.” (The specific detainee/?terrorist is Ahmed Khalfan Ghailani, a black male accused of U.S. embassy bombings overseas.) Along with these stories The Times ran a buried item (A24) that looked at the histories of the four men (all black, all Muslims) who were arrested in a plot to bomb Jewish sites in the U.S. What struck me, was that in 3 of the 4 cases, the men arrested had converted to Islam in prison. Ok, so...now... let’s think about public health for a minute. Tubrculosis is a major problem in prisons; it spreads through prisons far more rapidly than in the general population. There are many reasons for this, but suffice it to say, it is a large problem and one that needs to be carefully monitored in order to avoid catastrophic disseminations. So, if these men all picked up a violent brand of thinking (anti-semitism) in prison, a particular brand—one with a particular footprint as it were, why should we not worry about the same sort of troubles when placing another sort of dangerous footprint in prison populations to fester and spread. If X cases of TB can spread more easily than a lesser number, then certainly X number of cases of violent anti-Americanism could be assumed to spread more easily than a lesser number of cases. Put another way, an efficient way to get the most dangerous form of TB is to live in a prison population where so many cases are present. The more the cases, the closer the confinement, etc., ect., the more likely one is to end up with TB, especially the more virulent strains. So, yes, so the media-for-Obama argument goes, we do have terrorists in prisons now. But it is a fairly sure bet that if Obama disseminates X number over a lesser number, and that X number is more “evolved” at being virulent, then just like antibiotic- resistant TB cases that skyrocket in prisons when a threshold is reached…..Hello, Houston, WE WILL HAVE a Problem! Perhaps this is why 65% of Americans intuitively understand that mixing the most virulent anti-American extremists into our prison population—a population predisposed to antisocial disorder, violence, lower intellect and education, as well as narcissism and paranoia—is not a great idea. It is a very bad idea. There are far better solutions to be had. To those that say, give me a better solution, I say pay me! How about that for thinking like a man! This site is to question authority, not serve as unpaid support staff. Btw: 78% of Independents oppose closing Guantanamo. http://www.nytimes.com/2009/05/22/nyregion/22suspects.html?_r=1&scp=1&sq... http://www.washingtonexaminer.com/opinion/blogs/beltway-confidential/New... http://www.nytimes.com/2009/05/22/us/politics/22obama.html?scp=1&sq=obam... related story: |

I want Gitmo closed, but
I want Gitmo closed, but doing it Obama's way is more dangerous than keeping it open.
There are much better options, but I agree that it is up to THE ONE to come up with those. He told us he was ready after a couple of months in Congress. As if!
The tuberculosis analogy is
The tuberculosis analogy is extremely apt.
Filling our susceptable prison population with Gitmo grads and perhaps Bagram prisoners is a very stupid idea. Obama likes it because it will get him off the hook, but leave massive problems down the line.
This is becoming a pattern of Mr. Obama, banking and cars and heath care. He wants to be the guy with the glory in the sort term, costs to future generations be damned.
Mr. Obama is looking as short-sighted as Bush, W, that is.
good point.
