Will Sarcasm be a win for Obama in 2012?

A favorite question of mine of late is whether or not Barack Hussein Obama will be re-elected in 2012. I've got my ear to the ground on this and lots of folks are happy to give me their two cents, but by far the best response to that question came from a friend of mine in Detroit who sent me this from the WSJ: "A gallon of gas: $4. Presidential sarcasm: priceless.."

excerpt:

At a town-hall meeting yesterday in Fairless Hills, Pa., a man in the audience asked Obama about gasoline prices, which are currently in the range of $4 a gallon. According to the Associated Press, Obama responded "laughingly" and "needled" the questioner. The president's sarcasm comes through in the White House transcript:

I know some of these big guys, they're all still driving their big SUVs. You know, they got their big monster trucks and everything. You're one of them? Well, now, here's my point. If you're complaining about the price of gas and you're only getting eight miles a gallon--(laughter)--you may have a big family, but it's probably not that big. How many you have? Ten kids, you say? Ten kids? (Laughter.) Well, you definitely need a hybrid van then. (Laughter.) . . .
So, like I said, if you're getting eight miles a gallon you may want to think about a trade-in. You can get a great deal. I promise you, GM or Ford or Chrysler, they're going to be happy to give you a deal on something that gets you better gas mileage.

Now, Debra Saunders of the San Francisco Chronicle has dinged Obama for not knowing that Lamborghinis are the car type that get 8 miles to the gallon, not the middle class SUVs of middle America.

But it was not Saunders words that convinced me that Obama is in trouble; it was Obama himself, being himself with all the disdain for Middle America that he brings with him where ever he goes. He is wearing very very thin on the electorates' nerves. He is a lot like Bush in that there is a devoted 30 to 33% who will love him come Hell or high water, but the rest of us are looking for A More Prosperous Future without the school boy snarky snit fits.

"Sure Obama wants Euro

"Sure Obama wants Euro pricing on gas here..."

Yes, that's exactly what he wants no matter that our geography is very different from European countries. Until very recently my husband had to drive one hour to get to work. This was not some luxurious spoiled middle class choice of his - it was literally the only job he could find for two years. It sucked to make such a drive and as time passed in the Obama administration, it sucked to pay so much of our salary to his two hour a day commute. Thank god that he was able to find a job closer to home. Yes, yes, the environment of course. But it is also hard on families financially!!! City dwellers who protest their subway tickets going up in price have no idea and I feel this is the mentality that Obama feels most comfortable with - educated urbanites as well as those outside the city that are so financially comfortable that something like high gas prices mean very little to them.

O has no respect for the middle class and I am tired of the sardonic wit of the left. Hopefully whoever runs against him will do so fearlessly and use Obama's own words and actions against him!

This is a window into the

This is a window into the bullyish soul of a childish president. I voted for this kid!

Support by those Barack needs

Support by those Barack needs to win in 2012 is down to 35%
Gallop out with only 35% approval rating now from Independents

Yes, a lot can happen between now and 2012, but it is the Republican's to lose! Huntsman is waiting in the wings and I'd look for him to come out boxing by September.

I'm not sure. This kind of

I'm not sure. This kind of obnoxious know-it-all-ism did not keep him out of the WH the first time. Why would it the second? Most of the folks listening to him now are already in his back pocket. And they love this sort of smart-assery.

By the time Mr. Obama's rhetoric matters to the "average Joe" he will sing a different tune. And, if any of his opponents replay his earlier middle class mockery they will be called ray-cist, bitter-clingers.

only stupid typical racists

only stupid typical racists according to Obama make up the white middle class

SYD, I love it "smart-assery"

SYD, I love it "smart-assery" ! perfect!!
Yes, it is perhaps wishful thinking on my part and combined with the fact that almost no one hears this "smart assery" from Obama as the media protects him from his own puerile mouth--it does look bleak.

But....the flight of independents from Obama is startling, so that gives me hope for change:-)

I have never heard a president mock Americans for the pain they are feeling at the pump. Sure Obama wants Euro pricing on gas here, but when push comes to vote, if gas prices are still at ~$4 a gallon next year, it may be his doom. Some quick thinking Republican should find that tape and play it over and over again of Obama mocking gas pump pain, and that would be campaing GOLD for a Red candidate.

The best thing that can happen is to build a community of blogs/webistes that are actually thoughful examinations of issues and not the Obotery of big media.
